Piran is among the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean.

Among Europeans, the Mediterranean is considered a popular summer destination; however, to discover its most beautiful parts, one can merely travel to the Slovene coast. At least that is what the British say.

“There are some heavenly destinations here that you might find charming,” says the website of the British magazine Hello which also posted a list of five most beautiful Mediterranean towns, among which is Piran.

“This small piece of land, which stretches into the Adriatic towards the southwest, is home to one of best preserved and most spectacular old towns in Europe.” This is how their description of the Slovene coastal town began.

The steeple of St. George’s church was showcased as the most impressive site. “From here, visitors can best admire the old town which is surrounded with a medieval wall and full of memorials testifying of its fascinating history,” they wrote.

The church was built around the 12th century and it got its current appearance in 1637. The steeple of the church was added in 1608 and is a smaller copy of the steeple of St. Mark’s church in Venice.
